About the Datathon
The Hampton Roads Datathon is a collaborative event that brings together academic researchers, university students, city staff, non-profits, businesses, and other stakeholders to address pressing regional issues. Participants will form teams of 2 to 6 members to develop innovative solutions aimed at improving mosquito surveillance and control strategies. Don't have a team? No problem! Sign up individually, and we'll match you with other participants.
2025 Challenge: Mosquito Surveillance and Control
This year's challenge focuses on Mosquito Vector Control and Surveillance. We encourage participants to explore solutions to the following questions:
- Deep Learning
- Identify mosquito counts and species from images
- Predict mosquito populations using AI
- Simulation
- Model species spread, climate effects, and land use impacts
- Data Analytics
- Evaluate control strategies
- Map outbreak risks
- Visualize insights for public health
