Project Information
The Department of Transportation (DOT) is taking proactive steps to improve road safety along W Little Creek Road, specifically at the curve approaching Hampton Boulevard and the intersection of W Little Creek Road at Gleneagles Road/Maury Arch. A study was conducted on the intersection and its connecting streets, which included an evaluation of the intersection, the development of conceptual improvements, and a cost estimate for the recommended upgrades.
Why This Project Matters
This section of W Little Creek Road has experienced multiple vehicle crashes, including incidents where cars have left the roadway and collided with nearby businesses. By implementing strategic improvements, the Department of Transportation aims to create a safer environment for drivers, pedestrians, and local businesses.
- Planned Safety Enhancements
- Dynamic Curve Warning System: LED flashing beacon signs activated by real-time speed displays to alert drivers of upcoming curves.
- Improved Roadway Markings & Signage: Enhanced pavement markings and better-placed warning signs for clearer guidance.
- Curb & Intersection Modifications: Adjustments to curb layouts and intersection geometry to improve traffic flow and reduce confusion.
- Pedestrian & Business Protection: Installation of median islands and improved barriers to protect sidewalks and storefronts.
- Mini-Roundabout or T-Intersection Option: At the Gleneagles Road/Maury Arch intersection, options include a mini-roundabout or a redesigned T-intersection for better traffic channelization.
