Scope of Work

The project will involve the removal of a portion of the bridge, sidewalk and railing. A new section of the bridge and sidewalk will be recast in concrete and a new railing system will be installed to enhance safety and visibility. A sealant will be applied to the concrete to protect the structure and extend its lifespan.

Traffic Impacts

Throughout the duration of the project, drivers and pedestrians can expect the following traffic impacts:

  • The outside eastbound lane will be closed for approximately five months.
  • The outside westbound lane will be closed for approximately five months.
  • During certain stages of construction, both outside lanes will be closed to accommodate the staging of a crane on the bridge for several weeks.

The City of Norfolk advises motorists and pedestrians to plan for potential delays. Message boards will be in place before and throughout the project.

Construction Schedule

  • Construction Start: November 2024
  • Expected Completion: August 2025
