Property Crimes Unit

It is the responsibility of the Larceny Section to investigate all larcenies that occur within the City of Norfolk. Crimes investigated by the Larceny Section include grand larceny, felony vandalism, threats in writing, credit card theft, larceny from auto, stolen firearms from vehicles, and catalytic converter thefts. Auto Section

The Auto Section is responsible for investigating all crimes involving vehicles, including Stolen Vehicles, Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicles, Possession of Stolen Autos, Attempted Theft of Vehicles, Shop Inspections, and Hit-and-Run incidents (Property and Personal Injury/Death). Burglary Section

The Burglary Section is responsible for investigating all commercial, residential, and non-residential burglaries that occur within the City of Norfolk. The Burglary Section handles pawn shop enforcement, as regular reporting of pawned items to the Police Department is mandated by ordinance and monitored by investigators who routinely visit the businesses to ensure compliance. Economic Crimes Section

The Economic Crimes Section investigates all crimes involving fraud. These crimes include obtaining money by false pretense, credit card theft, credit card fraud, embezzlement, bigamy, worthless checks, failure to return rental property, failure to perform construction, and non-violent extortion. Commonwealth Attorney Section 

This section acts as the liaison between the Commonwealth Attorney and the Norfolk Police Department.  The responsibilities of those in the Commonwealth Attorney Section include serving witness subpoenas, retrieving felony folders and witness subpoenas, issuing notifications for missing court appearances, and handling grand jury matters.
