Responsibilities & Services
The Detective Division investigates reported felony and serious misdemeanor offenses (excluding narcotic and vice-related crimes) occurring within the jurisdiction of Norfolk. It is the responsibility of the division to identify, arrest, and present offenders to the judicial system. This is accomplished through cooperative efforts between officers and investigators, personnel from other city departments, local, state, and federal agencies, and the citizens of Norfolk. The Detective Division consists of the Forensics Unit, Property Crimes Unit, Special Crimes Unit, and Violent Crimes Unit.
