Granby Street Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon

Project News

The work orders for this project have been executed, and we are awaiting materials to proceed with Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) installation to enhance pedestrian safety.

Project Location

This project introduces Norfolk's first Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) to enhance pedestrian safety along the Granby Street corridor. Initiated during the development stage of the Granby Street Bike Lane Project, the PHB features a unique lighting sequence activated by a pedestrian push button. It flashes yellow to alert drivers then transitions to a steady red to signal to stop vehicles and allows pedestrians to cross safely. This initiative aims to reduce pedestrian fatalities and vehicle delays. Please see resource links below for more information.

Public Outreach

The department will inform residents about the operation of this new signal implementation through social media, NorfolkTV, and nearby Civic Leagues.
