Our Stormwater Education Kit is deigned to help third grade teachers meet SOL requirements while education students about important local water pollution issues. The kit includes a rolling tote filled with the supplies needed to do the activities outlined in the teacher's guide which includes visual aids, fun water-themed books, interactive demonstrations, practical worksheets and outdoor exploration activities. A detailed background will empower you, the teacher, to teach this unit to your students. These lessons will get your students thinking and help inspire them to be good stewards of our local waterways.
*While the Stormwater Education Guide is  designed to meet third grade SOLs, these kits can be adapted to meet the needs of multiple ages and grade levels.

Watershed/Nonpoint Source Model

Hands-on, interactive demonstration of the sources and effects of water pollution. Easily demonstrate how stormwater runoff carries pollutants through the watershed to a pond, lake, river, bay or ocean - and the best management practices to prevent this type of pollution from occurring. Includes all needed supplies and a detailed lesson plan.

Green Learning Educational Guides

Elementary and Middle School

Written according to Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) guidelines by a team of experts who work in the region’s public works and public utilities departments, the askHRgreen.org Green Learning Guides connect students to their environment by combining educational information with fun age-appropriate activities such as colorful maps, engaging infographics, and puzzles. Corresponding Teacher’s Guides have also been created to highlight fun, interactive class activities to further reinforce important environmental concepts and take the topics “beyond the book.” Topics covered include the water cycle, watershed education, pollution prevention, water conservation, wildlife protection, waste reduction, recycling, and prevention of sanitary sewer overflows.

Car Wash Kit

For Fundraisers

If your school or sports team is having a car wash for a fundraiser the best thing to do is partner with a professional car wash to ensure polluted runoff will be properly handled. If you can't do that, we have a car wash kit for loan that will divert wash water away from storm drains and ensure your event is environmentally friendly.
