Teen Read Week & Banned Books Week present: Teen Scene Film Festival

We're partnering Teen Read Week with Banned Books Week to bring you the Teen Scenes Film Festival! Make your own movie and see it on the big screen, then see who wins the Best of awards. For teens only!

Pick a Scene.

Choose a scene from one of the movies listed below. Each of these movies was based on a book that has been banned or challenged!

  • Holes
  • Divergent
  • The Giver
  • Harry Potter
  • Willie Wonka
  • Percy Jackson
  • The Color Purple
  • A Wrinkle in Time
  • The Great Gatsby
  • Gone with the Wind
  • The Hunger Games
  • Alice in Wonderland

  • The Lord of the Rings
  • James & the Giant Peach
  • Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

Film it.

Film your scene with a phone or a camera, alone or in a group, at home or at the library. We'll have free filming sessions during Banned Book Week where we'll have the filming equipment, props and computers. See the calendar below for dates and times.

Upload it.

Fill out a registration form and upload your finished movie to YouTube with the hashtags #itsmyNPL and #TRW2018 by Saturday, October 6 at 5 PM.

Win it.

Will your film win Best Performances? Most Creative? Best Adaptation? Best Production Design? Most Liked? Come to the Teen Scenes Film Festival at the Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch at Broad Creek on October 13 at 2 PM to view the entries and the winners. Don't forget to share your movie - the entry with the most likes on YouTube wins the Most Liked Award!

Fine Print:

We will make every effort to show each entry uploaded to YouTube. However, content must be chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Amount of entries: We would love to show every entry uploaded, but we only have a certain amount of viewing time and will only be able to guarantee a spot for the first 45 entries.
  • Appropriateness of Entries: All entries must be appropriate for all audiences. If the scene you would like to film contains content inappropriate for all ages, you may modify the scene by bleeping out or not saying words, skipping parts, etc.

The Norfolk Public Library is not responsible for any Teen Scenes Film Festival content uploaded to YouTube.
