For friendly, engaging, outgoing people who enjoy working with the public!
The Norfolk Public Library Ambassadors represent NPL in events such as festivals, fairs, and community venues. They function as “Library Docents” and engage the public, promote library services, award-winning programs, and the volunteer program. They also distribute library information and resources.
Ambassadors receive training on NPL programs and target age groups, locations of library branches, how to engage the public, how to promote upcoming events with handouts, and how to assist attendees with simple art activities or mementos.
For those who like to get hands-on!
We're seeking teenagers and adults to volunteer at our many locations. Opportunities include shelving books, organizing and maintaining Kidzones and Youth Services equipment, assisting with children and STEM programs, data entry, digital media, producing theme-based curriculum materials, attending special events and community programs and much more!
Locations include our Administrative Office, Service Center and various neighborhood branches.
Teen Tech Pros
For the tech savvy, field experts, and those who want to mentor teens!

The Bookmobile Brigade accompanies the Bookmobile in local parades and events. Volunteers must be able to travel alongside the Bookmobile and may be asked to hold signs or banners.
For the crafty, creative, and those who love kids' projects!
Our Youth Services Department is looking for help with tasks like:
- Check-in and inventory kits
- Glitter and glue projects
- Decorate and assemble swag bags
- Organize Supplies and Materials
- Prepare Holiday Crafts
- Cut out Holiday Images
- Organize and Maintain Toy Collections
- Maintain Storeroom Book Collection
