Equipment and Software

Every location offers public computers with access to the Internet via Internet Explorer or Chrome. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Access are also available. All computers currently employ the Windows 7 operating system. Some locations also offer flatbed scanners and/or color printing. iMacs are available at Slover Library.

Filtering software is used to filter out proxy sites, sites that pose a security risk to the network, and obscene materials in compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and in accordance with NPL’s Computer and Internet Safety and Usage Policy. In some cases, patrons may request that the content filter be disabled.

Computer aides and library staff are available for basic assistance at all locations.

Eligible Users

Anyone with a valid library card or Internet card may use a library computer for the time limit assigned. Usage is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Patrons must use their own cards to use our computers; cards are non-transferable. The use of another patron's card is not permitted and may result in the suspension of computer privileges.

Access and Policy Information

For further information about the use of Library computers please see the Norfolk Public Library Computer and Internet Safety and Usage Policy.

Wireless Access

Every location offers free WiFi access during open hours. Library staff are happy to provide passwords as requested.

Wireless access is filtered at a single level and cannot be adjusted by Library personnel.
