The Norfolk Public Library Bookmobile serves as the library’s mobile branch; it extends library services into the community to meet the diverse needs of Norfolk’s neighborhoods and responds to their information and programming needs.
The City of Norfolk launched its first bookmobile on July 17, 1956 to service the residents of the recently annexed Tanner's Creek area of Norfolk County. On August 8, 1960, a second bookmobile hit the streets, bringing services to the portion of Princess Anne County (Kempsville District) recently annexed to the City of Norfolk. A new, state-of-the-art Bookmobile was put into operation in 1999.
We welcomed our Bookmobile back to service in April 2018 after extensive renovations. The newly refurbished Bookmobile features an awning, inside and outside TV with a PA system, a new outside wrap, upgraded steps and wheelchair lift, Wi-Fi, new lighting and new flooring. We're excited to once again have our library mobile!
