From the Director's Chair...

This month, we invite you to bring your children to one of our exciting programs! No matter if they’re toddlers, teens, or anywhere in between, we have something they’ll enjoy. Get comfy with a spooky book and prepare for a month filled with fun. Looking ahead, we’re thrilled to announce special Storytimes dedicated to celebrating thankfulness and honoring military families. Sonal Rastogi

TeenTober

Oct. 1-30

Teens, stop by your local branch and see what programs are available for you each week during October! Movie nights, D&D, Anime Drawing and DIY Tarot Journals are just a few examples of the excitement to come. Click for the schedule.

Spooky Storytimes

Oct. 15-31

Join us for a spooky good time with stories, hair-raising crafts and ghostly good fun. Costumes encouraged but not required! Click for the schedule.

Trick-or-Treat Carnival

Saturday, Oct. 25 from noon - 4 p.m.

Enjoy carnival games, activities, BOO! Bingo, candy and more at the Downtown Branch at Slover! Wear your costume and enter our costume contest!

Trunk or Treat

Saturday, Oct. 25 from 2-4 p.m.

Join us for a fun and festive Trunk or Treat event in Mary D. Pretlow Anchor Branch’s parking lot! Enjoy an afternoon of spooky fun with music, games, crafts and more.

Haunted House

Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 2-5 p.m.

Van Wyck Branch's KidZone will transform into the SpookyZone for Halloween! Stop by the library for frights, laughs and lots of fun.

Halloweentown

Thursday, Oct. 30 from 3-7 p.m.

Step into the magic at Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch for this fun, not-too spooky event perfect for families with small children!

Haunted Mask-a-Rave Ball

Thursday, Oct. 30 from 4-6 p.m.

It’s a Mask-a-Rave at Richard A. Tucker Memorial! Make your own mask and join our ghoulish dance party in the library!

Halloween Party

Friday, Oct. 31 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

This party at Lafayette Branch features candy, crafts, games and a costume contest with a prize!

Monster Mash

Friday, Oct. 31 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Come in costume and get a head-start on candy at Barron F. Black Branch’s annual Monster Mash! We’ll have bingo, crafts, Miss Susan’s Fabulous Balloon Animals, trick-or-treating set up throughout the library and plenty of pizza and snacks!

Community Outreach

City of Norfolk Police Trunk or Treat: Sunday, Oct. 26 from 5-7:30 p.m. at The Scope.

Fall Festival: Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5-7 p.m. at Lake Taylor School.

Celebrate International Games Month (IGM) during Nov. 1-29 and see what fun each location has to offer!

National Family Literacy Month

Pick up a free mug, bookmark, and other goodies at your local library during Nov. 1-29 and learn how important family literacy is to a child’s education.
