[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police make arrest in connection with homicide investigation

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Together, Norfolk Police, the U.S. Marshals Service, and members of the New York Police Department have arrested two people who were wanted in connection with a homicide that happened on Bagnall Road.

On July 13th, around 1:15 a.m., police were dispatched to the 900 block of Bagnall Road for the report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

The man, later identified as Dion L. Melton, 32, was transported to the hospital for treatment where he died from his injuries.

As a result of their investigation, detectives have charged Joy T. Samuels, 32, and Robert Gilmore 31, both of Norfolk. Samuels has been charged with second-degree murder, robbery, and conspiracy, and Gilmore has been charged with second-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy, and use of a firearm. 

Both were taken into custody in Brooklyn, New York on September 23rd without incident. 

They are currently awaiting extradition and will be held in Norfolk City Jail.
