Woman Sentenced to Jail After Pleading Guilty to Grand Larceny from NEX
NORFOLK, Va. — Quamisha Danielle Blow, 32, was sentenced on Tuesday, Jan. 21, to serve 11 months in jail after she pleaded guilty to grand larceny for stealing from the Norfolk Main Navy Exchange last year.
On April 24, Ms. Blow loaded an NEX shopping cart full of electronics totaling more than $2,700 and pushed the cart out of the store without paying. A loss prevention officer witnessed Ms. Blow stealing, the officer alerted Naval Station Norfolk Police, and police officers approached Ms. Blow in the parking lot. Ms. Blow tried to abandon the shopping cart and get into a car to flee, but the officers eventually got her to step out of the car. Norfolk Police officers arrived to arrest Ms. Blow, she gave a full confession, and the officers charged her with grand larceny.
On Jan. 21, Ms. Blow pleaded guilty as charged and agreed to serve 11 months in jail — a sentence consistent with her Virginia Sentencing Guidelines and her prior criminal history — with another three years in prison suspended on the conditions that she be of uniform good behavior for five years following her release. Judge David W. Lannetti accepted Ms. Blow’s plea agreement and sentenced her per the agreement.
“People who steal from stores, whether a corner market or an arm of the Department of Defense, are not committing a victimless crime. Their actions drive up prices for everyone else when stores raise prices to cover their losses,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “We have held Ms. Blow appropriately accountable for her actions. We now hope that Ms. Blow will make better decisions and not be back again.”
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie G. Johnson prosecuted Ms. Blow’s case, and Norfolk Police Officer Michael A. Cobb Jr. led the investigation.
