Man Sentenced to More Than 1 Year for Burglarizing Ocean View Store
NORFOLK, Va. – A judge sentenced Timothy Aaron Collins, 58, on Friday to one year and four months in prison for burglarizing an Ocean View business to steal speakers last year.
On Aug. 22, Mr. Collins attempted to steal a Bluetooth speaker from the Boost Mobile store on West Ocean View Avenue during business hours. Later that night, while the store was closed, Mr. Collins forced open the front doors of the store and stole the same speaker. Surveillance video captured the entire incident. The following day, Norfolk Police officers recognized Mr. Collins from the video at a nearby park, detained him, and found the speaker nearby.
On Dec. 12, Mr. Collins pleaded guilty to burglary and petit larceny, and Judge Mary Jane Hall accepted his plea with an agreed maximum sentence of one year and five months. On Friday, Judge Hall sentenced Mr. Collins to one year and four months in prison, with another year and eight months suspended on the condition that he complete one year of supervised probation, four years of uniform good behavior, and a mental health assessment.
Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott C. Vachris prosecuted Mr. Collins’ case on behalf of the Commonwealth, and Norfolk Police Detective John A. Schraft Jr. led the investigation.
