Man Sentenced to 1 Year for Eluding State Troopers, Carrying Concealed Firearm
NORFOLK, Va. — Teron Danzell Young, 36, was sentenced on Friday to serve one year in prison for eluding police and carrying a concealed firearm without a permit after leading state troopers on a high-speed pursuit last summer.
On July 4, 2023, Virginia State Police troopers on Interstate 264 saw Mr. Young recklessly speeding on his motorcycle eastbound toward the exchange with Interstate 64. Mr. Young ignored the troopers when they attempted to pull him over and proceeded westbound on I-64, weaving in and out of lanes at speeds reaching up to 104 mph. Mr. Young exited the highway at Norview Avenue, ran the red light following the exit, and finally pulled over in a nearby apartment complex. When the troopers went to detain Mr. Young, he told the troopers that he had a gun on his person, and the troopers recovered it from a fully zipped pocket of his pants. A criminal-history check showed that Mr. Young had previously been convicted of unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon.
Mr. Young pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following a bench trial on Feb. 15, 2024, Judge Joseph C. Lindsey convicted Mr. Young as charged of felony eluding and felony second-offense carrying of a concealed firearm without a permit.
On Friday, after arguments from the Commonwealth and the defense, Judge Lindsey sentenced Mr. Young to serve one year in prison and suspended another three years of active incarceration on the condition that Mr. Young complete two years of uniform good behavior.
“Mr. Young did two very dangerous things on July 4 of last year: He risked his and other people’s lives with his triple-digit driving, and he carried a concealed gun when he knew he should not have done it,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “We are fortunate that he did not injure anyone. Mr. Young must now serve a sentence that fits his crimes.”
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Alberto Z. Herrero prosecuted Mr. Young’s case on behalf of the Commonwealth, and Virginia State Trooper Matthew Demoss led the investigation.

Mr. Young is docketed for sentencing on April 18.
“Mr. Young is going to prison because he endangered himself, other drivers, and the trooper who rightly wanted him to stop,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “Mr. Young’s illegal concealment of a gun made matters even more dangerous, and, having committed the crime before, he should have known better.”
