Norfolk Man Pleads Guilty to March 2023 Wards Corner Burglaries
NORFOLK, Va. – Today, 26-year-old Daekwon Carlton Hargraves pleaded guilty to multiple burglary and larceny charges related to string of burglaries he committed in the Wards Corner area earlier this year.
On March 25, just after 2 a.m., Mr. Hargraves burglarized the Guads at Granby restaurant. Norfolk Police detectives recovered surveillance footage which showed Mr. Hargraves breaking open a side door with a screwdriver and stealing hundreds of dollars in cash and two bottles of liquor.
On March 28, Mr. Hargraves burglarized the Wendy’s restaurant at 208 E. Little Creek Road. Surveillance video showed Mr. Hargraves forcing open the side door and stealing about $1,500 from a safe.
On March 30, just after 2 a.m., Mr. Hargraves burglarized La Botica Hispana at 7552 Virginian Drive. Norfolk Police detectives recovered surveillance footage in which Mr. Hargraves could be seen casing the store before committing the burglary. Later surveillance footage showed Mr. Hargraves breaking into the store through a window and stealing an iPhone and more than $200 dollars from a cash register.
On April 4, Mr. Hargraves was arrested in the Wards Corner area on a warrant from a neighboring city. Mr. Hargraves claimed to investigators that he had nothing to do with the recent string of burglaries in the area. Due to positive identifications of Mr. Hargraves from the available surveillance footage, Norfolk Police secured warrants against Mr. Hargraves in May for the Guads, Wendy's, and Botica Hispana burglaries.
Mr. Hargraves pleaded guilty on Aug. 15 to three counts of statutory burglary, one count of grand larceny, and two counts of petit larceny, and Norfolk Circuit Court Judge Jerrauld C. Jones accepted his plea. Mr. Hargraves is docketed for sentencing on Sept. 29.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney J. Drew Fairbanks is prosecuting Mr. Hargraves’ case on behalf of the Commonwealth.
