NORFOLK, VA – Construction on the Military Highway Bridge Rehabilitation Project begins April 17.
These updates will impact the northbound side over the Elizabeth River, near River Forest Shores and south of Wayside Park.
Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Off-duty police and flaggers may assist with traffic. Motorists should expect alternating lane closures and intermittent traffic stoppages. Alternating lane closures and traffic shifts will remain in place 24/7. Traffic lanes approaching the bridge will taper and merge. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2023.
This project will repair structural elements, apply waterproofing sealants, and repair and protect concrete elements to extend the useful life of the bridge. The scope of work also includes:
- Repair concrete spalls, cracks, and delamination in the bridge superstructure.
- Install an epoxy overlay on the bridge deck.
- Apply waterproofing sealant to concrete elements.
- New lane striping.
Future updates will be announced on message boards, media alerts, norfolk.gov, Nextdoor and project update emails. Visit the project webpage for more information.
