NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) –  A driver was critically injured during a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of E. Little Creek Road and Chesapeake Boulevard early Sunday morning.

On July 12, 2020 at approximately 6:40 a.m. police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 900 block of E. Little Creek Road. Officers arrived and found a driver suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue extricated the driver from a Ford sedan, and transported the driver to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Mercedes, later identified as Evan M. Stephens, 25, of Norfolk, ran a red light while traveling westbound on E. Little Creek Road. Stephens struck a Ford sedan that was traveling southbound on Chesapeake Boulevard. Stephens fled from the scene on foot; however, was later arrested and charged with driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated, and hit and run.
