[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Preps for Winter Weather Blast

Trash and recycling will take place as scheduled on Thursday and Friday.

NORFOLK, VA – Public Works crews spent Wednesday prepping equipment ahead of a snowy Friday forecast.   Norfolk has ready:

  • 23 Plow Trucks
  • 16 Pickup Trucks fitted with Plows
  • 21 Spreaders
  • 4 Salt Brine Distributor Trucks
  • 5 Loaders
  • 8 Backhoes
  • 2,300 tons of bulk salt
  • 900 tons of sand
  • 10,000 gallons of brine

Beginning Thursday, crews will work 12-hour shifts.  As conditions deteriorate, crews will keep an eye on bridges and overpasses and treat if necessary.

If two inches of snow falls, plows will clear bridges/overpasses, main roadways and other high-priority areas first.  Plows do not clear neighborhood streets.

Trash and recycling will take place as scheduled on Thursday and Friday.
