[ARCHIVED] Man dies following a vehicle crash on E. Little Creek Road Tuesday morning

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A man has died following a vehicle crash that occurred on East Little Creek Road early Tuesday morning.

Around 6:50 a.m., police were called to the intersection of East Little Creek Road and Van Patten Road for a vehicle crash with injuries. When police arrived, they located a driver suffering from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment; however, he died shortly after arrival. His identity will be released once his family has been notified.

The preliminary information is that the man was driving a Nissan Titan pick-up in the wrong direction down East Little Creek. The vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

At the intersection of Tidewater Drive, the truck struck a vehicle and continued traveling down East Little Creek. The then truck left the roadway and struck several poles and the building at Southern Shopping Center.  As a result of the crash, the vehicle rolled over, and the driver had to be extricated from the truck by Norfolk-Fire Rescue. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

The driver of the other vehicle that was struck at Tidewater Drive was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

Investigators say speed appears to have been a contributing factor; however, it is unknown at this time if alcohol was involved.

Currently, all lanes of East Little Creek from Dallas Street to Tidewater Drive are closed while police investigate this crash. The roadway will be closed for several hours, and motorists can expect detours.
