[ARCHIVED] "We Won't Rest Until We Arrest Breast Cancer"

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and beginning today, October 1, Norfolk Police officers will celebrate warriors and support survivors in their battle with breast cancer, through the Department's breast cancer awareness campaign. This year’s campaign includes a national partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, to inspire the Norfolk Police online community to contribute to the cure for breast cancer, through a donation link located in each Facebook and Twitter post about the disease. Norfolk Police professional staff and officers, including the Lip Sync to the Rescue Champions, will provide weekly social media stories of encouragement and life-saving information for those affected by the disease.

Residents will readily identify officers support for breast cancer awareness by a pink ribbon pin attached to their uniforms, in addition to bold pink billboards placed throughout the city, to inspire breast cancer warriors and survivors through their journeys.

Chief Larry D. Boone believes the Department’s breast cancer awareness campaign is an extension of community outreach. “We work for safe and healthy neighborhoods daily; along with the knowledge that 1 in every 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Women are the lifeblood of our communities.
A diagnosis of breast cancer compromises one’s health and potentially upsets the balance of a community supported by the woman diagnosed. We are here to serve and support!” Norfolk breast cancer warriors and survivors are encouraged to share their stories on Facebook and tag NorfolkPD.

The Norfolk Police pink breast cancer awareness vehicle will be staged at various awareness events. Support for the cure is highly encouraged through donations via the link http://www.info-komen.org/goto/NorfolkPD embedded with NPD social media posts related to breast cancer awareness, which features a special message and video from the Lip Sync to the Rescue Champions.
Donations also support education and research.
