NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Norfolk police arrested two following a robbery and stolen vehicle attempt Thursday evening.
At approximately 9:00 p.m. Thursday, Norfolk emergency dispatchers received a call from a woman stating she was robbed at gunpoint in the 2800 block of Kellar Avenue. The woman was uninjured during the incident and the suspects fled from the scene in a vehicle before police arrived.
Shortly after the call to dispatchers was made, police located a vehicle that matched the description of the one used in the robbery. The vehicle was confirmed stolen and police attempted to conduct a traffic stop with lights and sirens activated. The driver refused to stop and attempted to elude police until the stolen car reached a dead end in the 200 block of La Valette Avenue. Both occupants of the stolen car attempted to run into nearby marshland to escape. Police pursued them into the cold marsh and quickly apprehended both suspects without further incident.
The suspects were positively identified as Edwin Horne (21) and Eugene Hammond (19), both of the 2700 block of Parker Avenue in Norfolk.
Robbery detectives charged Horne and Hammond with one count each of the following offenses: robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, felony eluding, and grand larceny.
Edwin Horne and Eugene Hammond will spend their New Year’s in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
