[ARCHIVED] Man crashes into street sweeper, dies

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A 38-year-old man was killed in a crash involving a street sweeper Wednesday night in Norfolk.

First responders were called to the scene around 10:45 p.m.

The preliminary investigation has revealed a Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Tidewater Drive when it rear-ended a street sweeper near the intersection of Philpotts Road. The driver of the Honda was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment; however, he died shortly after arrival.

The driver of the street sweeper was not injured during the crash and there were no other vehicles involved.

Police have closed the southbound traffic lanes on Tidewater Drive from Widgeon Road to Philpotts Road while they investigate. The closure should last a couple hours.

The man’s identity will be released after his family has been notified.
