[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police make arrest following accidental shooting involving a 3-year-old child

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Zyquay H. Fulford, 21, of Norfolk, has been charged in connection with a shooting that left a toddler injured Wednesday morning. 

Around 9:40 a.m. on January 7th police were called to a home in the 7600 block of Sheryl Drive for the report of a 3-year-old male believed to be suffering from a gunshot wound. 

When officers arrived on scene, they found the male child suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

The toddler was transported to the hospital to receive the necessary medical treatment.  

The preliminary investigation determined that the 3-year-old found an unsecured gun in the home and accidentally shot himself. 

Fulford has been charged with child neglect and contributing. 

He was taken to Norfolk City Jail and released on bond.
