[ARCHIVED] I-264 WEST OFF-RAMP TO BALLENTINE BOULEVARD (EXIT 12) REOPENED IN NORFOLK

Detour via I-264 west off-ramp to East Brambleton Avenue (exit 11B) has been removed

NORFOLK — As of Monday, Aug. 11, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) have reopened the I-264 west off-ramp to Ballentine Boulevard (exit 12) as part of the I-264 West Off-Ramp at Ballentine Boulevard Improvements Project in Norfolk. The ramp’s current traffic configuration includes two lanes of travel, with one right-turn lane and one left-turn lane onto Ballentine Boulevard.

Crews will continue work on the overall project to include completion of a left-turn only lane onto Ballentine Boulevard, installation of traffic and pedestrian signal poles, and the timing of the new traffic signals. Upon final completion, the ramp will feature a dedicated left-turn only lane and two right-turn only lanes onto Ballentine Boulevard.

The detour via the I-264 west on-ramp to East Brambleton Avenue (exit 11B) has been removed and the outside right travel lane of northbound Ballentine Boulevard, between Westminster Avenue and The Tide light rail tracks, has been reopened.

Construction is estimated to be complete by early 2026. All work is weather- and schedule-dependent; therefore, this schedule is subject to change.

Before hitting the road, consider using VDOT's free 511 Virginia traffic tools, or the free 511-integrated Waze GPS app, to check for the most up-to-date road and travel conditions. VDOT’s 511Virginia website and mobile app offer information about construction, traffic, incidents, and congestion, as well as access to traffic cameras, weather-related impacts and more.
