As of July 1, 2025, Virgina has begun phasing out the use of expanded polystyrene (EPS), commonly referred to as Styrofoam(TM), by food vendors. Large chain businesses (20+ food establishments) must comply with the new polystyrene ban. By July 1, 2026 all other food establishments must comply as well.
Foam-free alternatives included: Paper and wood, plant-based fiber (sugarcane, corn wheat, etc.) and foil or metal.
