[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police identify man charged following shooting on Monticello Avenue

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A man has been charged following a shooting at an apartment complex on Monticello Avenue involving Norfolk Police Officers.

Around 3:46 a.m., on April 27th, police were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Monticello Avenue for multiple reports of a person with a weapon. 

When police arrived, they found a man, identified as Glendon A. Sumner, 38, of Norfolk, holding a weapon. 

As Officers were engaging verbally with Sumner, he did not comply with their commands to put his weapon down, and Officers discharged their service weapons.  

Sumner sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive.

Following their investigation, detectives have charged Sumner with Brandishing a firearm and Reckless Handling of a Firearm. 

He remains in the hospital receiving medical treatment.

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation was requested to respond to the scene and is continuing to investigate the shooting involving Norfolk Police.
