[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police continuing to investigate shooting at Old Dominion University

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Two people are dead following an overnight shooting on the campus of Old Dominion University.

On February 26th, around 9:40 p.m.  Norfolk Police and Old Dominion University Police responded to the 1400 block of W 49th Street for the report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived at the scene, they found two men suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Both men were taken to the hospital for treatment where they were later pronounced deceased as a result of their injuries.

They have been identified as Delanio M. Vick, 18, of Norfolk, and Timothy G. Williams Jr. 20, of Norfolk.

“We are deeply saddened by the unnecessary violence that occurred overnight on the campus of Old Dominion University, said Norfolk Police Chief Mark Talbot, students attend a university to learn, and deserve to feel safe in their environment while doing so. We appreciate the strong partnership we have with the men and women of the Old Dominion University Police Department and all of their assistance both last night at the scene and today as we investigate this double homicide. Chief Shelton and I will continue to work closely together to ensure that our teams have the resources they need to hold those who are responsible for this violence accountable for their actions.”

The preliminary investigation determined that the shooting occurred in a parking lot near the Broderick Dining Commons between parties who are not affiliated with the University.

No students were involved in this incident.
