[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Conducts Full-Scale Exercise

NORFOLK, Va. – On Aug. 11, the City of Norfolk conducted a full-scale exercise at Ohef Sholom Temple simulating an active shooter and hostage situation. The exercise provided an opportunity for Norfolk Police and Norfolk Fire-Rescue to train together along with further developing inter-agency coordination, as well as enhancing communication and public information efforts.

The drill was conducted in coordination with Ohef Sholom Temple, United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, Secure Community Network, Virginia State Police, Hampton Roads Transit and the Department of Homeland Security. The scenario was built on the 2018 mass casualty incident at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA.

The City of Norfolk collaborates extensively with community organizations, including houses of worship and private sector partners, to ensure our police, fire, and 911 teams are fully prepared for any situation. Through comprehensive training exercises and ongoing partnerships, the City strives to enhance the readiness and resilience of our public safety teams, ensuring they can effectively respond to any potential threats that may arise in our community
