Alicia takes really good care of the people in our department. She wears many hats, and always strives to do a great job. Alicia is empathetic and wants everyone to be happy. She came to Budget and Strategic Planning from Public Works. She talks about her former department so positively, while simultaneously building relationships with her current department. Alicia strives to build great relationships, and she is a team player. Every time I see Alicia, she puts a smile on my face. I look at her as a light because her positive spirit lights up any room she enters.
Leah DeNio (SevenVenues), nominated by Megan Mensink (SevenVenues)
Leah is the event teams’ administrative assistant working to take in inquiries from event organizers looking to host events in Norfolk, whether it be the parks, open spaces, run/walks, block parties. She is the first point of contact for these inquiries and works hard to provide all citizens with the initial information they need to conduct a safe and successful event. She ensures timely responses and will follow-up with organizers to ensure they have what they need and ensure their questions are answered.
In addition to these duties, Leah also supports the department by being the main point of contact for our clients who are renting one of the City’s venues for touring shows. She works tirelessly to stay on top of all the various contracts, insurance, and additional paperwork to ensure the City hosts safe events for the citizens, staff and patrons. She does a lot of the behind the scenes work that no one sees, or may even realize needs to happen, well before the shows and events take place. She helps to keep the event team organized with the large number of events we oversee and ensures a pleasant and professional experience and first encounters for our clients.
She is a great asset not only to our Department but to the City and it’s citizens, to support a vibrant and diverse cultural life in Norfolk.
