[ARCHIVED] Woman charged following weekend crash on Chesapeake Boulevard

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – A woman has been charged following a crash early Saturday morning that left another woman dead.

Police responded to the 6900 block of Chesapeake Boulevard around 4:38 a.m., on January 27th, for the report of a single vehicle accident. When first responders arrived, they found that a car had collided with a concrete pole and caught on fire. 

The passenger, later identified as Tynisha D. Southerland, 29, of Portsmouth, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later died as a result of her injuries. 

As a result of the investigation, the driver, Jamika P. Ellis, 29, of Richmond, was charged with involuntary manslaughter DUI related. 

Ellis is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
