NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – The Norfolk Police Department is proud to have been nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) since 2016.
Considered the gold standard in public safety, CALEA is a credentialing authority through joint efforts of law enforcements major executive associations.
To maintain its CALEA accreditation, an agency must comply with the standards set forth by CALEA and undergo a reaccreditation process every four years, and the Norfolk Police Department will undergo an on-site review of its policies, procedures, operations, and professional services from October 9th through October 11th to ensure NPD is continuing to uphold the high level of professional excellence set forth by CALEA.
A public comment portal is currently available to receive public comments regarding the Norfolk Police Department’s compliance with CALEA standards, engagements in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status.
IMPORTANT: CALEA is not an investigatory body and subsequently the public portal should not be used to submit information for such purposes. Additionally, there will be no response other than acknowledgement of submissions.
