[ARCHIVED] Norfolk Police identify homicide victim

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) –Detectives are continuing to investigate a double shooting that left one man dead, and another injured.   

Around 6:00 a.m. on August 20, 2023, police responded to the 700 block of E. 29th Street for the report of a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The man, identified as Rapheal S. Sumner, 31, of Norfolk, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Soon after, a second gunshot victim was located inside of vehicle. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives have not released any additional information surrounding this incident.
