A work project blossomed into a love story for two City employees.
In 2021, Krystle Glover (DHCD) and Capt. Renato Aponte (NPD) joined a committee that focused on addressing youth violence in Norfolk. Despite meeting virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic, Krystle and Capt. Aponte had the chance to grow closer after volunteering to work on a project together. Project discussions turned into dinner plans, leading to them meeting face-to-face for the first time. Dinner led to something even more special - their wedding.
Their journey led them to July 22. Surrounded by their children, family and friends, Krystle and Capt. Aponte exchanged vows at the Founders Inn in Virginia Beach. Mayor Kenneth C. Alexander officiated the ceremony. During their reception, the newlyweds announced they were expecting a new addition to their Team Norfolk family - a baby girl.
