NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) –Homicide detectives have arrested a man following a double shooting at a 7-Eleven store located on W. 26th Street that left one man dead and another injured.
Around 11:40 p.m. on May 11, 2023, police responded to 1088 W. 26th Street for the report of a gunshot disturbance. When Officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old man and 25-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Shortly after arriving at the hospital, the 25-year-old man, later identified as Walter E. Painter, was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Jalen White-Kennedy, 24, was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by convicted felon.
On July 6, 2023, police arrested White-Kennedy in the City of Norfolk. He is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
Detectives have not released any additional circumstances surrounding this incident.
