City Council Passes Resolution Requesting Suspension of Norfolk’s Relationship with Russian Sister City
NORFOLK, VA – During the Tuesday, March 8, formal session, Norfolk City Council passed the resolution requesting that the Norfolk Sister City Association suspend their relationship with Kaliningrad due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin’s crimes against humanity.
The resolution acknowledges the City’s desire to maintain a relationship promoting peace and understanding with Kaliningrad while denouncing President Putin’s atrocities. The request is for suspension of the sister city relationship until peace and sovereignty is restored in Ukraine and that the Norfolk Sister City Association communicate this suspension to Kaliningrad.
