Norfolk, Va. (NPD) – A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) will be on-site October 14-16, 2019 to assess all aspects of the Norfolk Police Department’s policies, procedures, operations and professional services for the purposes of demonstrating compliance with national accreditation standards. Administered by the CALEA, the accreditation program requires law enforcement agencies to comply with standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information and call-in session on Monday, October 14, 2019. The public information session will be conducted at the NPD’s Third Patrol Division, Community Room, located at 901 Asbury Ave. in Norfolk between the hours of 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
In addition, agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling (757) 823-4465 or (757) 823-4459 between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Comments will be taken by the CALEA Assessment Team. Telephone comments and in person appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. In 2016, the Norfolk Police Department received CALEA Accreditation which requires re-accreditation every four years.
