Best Plants for Coastal Virginia

NORFOLK, VA–Norfolk Botanical Garden (NBG) will soon host its Annual Spring Plant Sale beginning Friday, May 3, 2019 through Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. This year’s plant sale theme is Water, Water, Everywhere – Best Plants for Coastal Virginia with a wide variety of rare and unusual plants at great prices. The event is open to the public with the exception of an exclusive early bird special for NBG members from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. each morning.

This year the Garden is paying special attention to plants that can tolerate wet soils, dry soils, or salty conditions. Plus, there are easy-growing perennials, hydrangeas, Japanese maples, edibles and more! The sale will also offer flowers and plants that attract pollinators. The Tidewater Butterfly Society is on-hand the entire weekend with helpful information on creating a pollinator friendly yard. The Virginia Bonsai Society will offer free demonstrations from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Visitors will find a wide variety of plants from the rare and unusual to the proven winners for Coastal Virginia. Garden-goers are sure to find the perfect plants to create a special look for their own garden. The entrance to the sale is Free with Garden admission.

The NBG horticulture staff are available all weekend to answer questions and provide expert advice to guests. Saturday afternoon NBG will have an ASL-speaking horticulturist to help anyone from the Deaf Community who needs help finding the perfect plant.
