[ARCHIVED] City & TFC Extend Recycling Contract

TFC will collect recycling past original November 1st deadline

NORFOLK, VA – City staff has been working with Tidewater Fibre Corporation (TFC) and both parties have agreed to extend TFC’s current contract through March 31, 2019. This extension will give Norfolk time to find an adequate solution for recycling in Norfolk.

On July 31, 2018, TFC Recycling exercised the 90-day opt out clause in Norfolk’s recycling contract and notified the City in writing that the company will cease recycling collection in Norfolk on November 1, 2018. The City immediately began a process to continue the residential curbside recycling program. Bids for the City’s Request for Proposals are due October 25th and issuance of a new contract will likely occur by March 2019.

Residents are reminded to recycle right! Place these items in the blue can:
  • Paper and paper products (no pizza boxes)
  • Aluminum and tin
  • Dry milk and juice cartons (no straws)
  • Dry Plastic bottles
  • Dry glass jars and bottles (no lids)
