NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) – Police have confirmed the identity of the victim in yesterday’s fatal hit-and-run motor vehicle accident.

Ronald Townes (53) of the 2200 block of Courtney Avenue in Norfolk was pronounced deceased shortly after medics transported him to the hospital.  The preliminary investigation revealed Townes was riding his moped in the 300 block of E. Princess Anne Road when he was struck by another motorist.  The driver of the suspect vehicle never stopped to assist Townes as he lay in the roadway and fled from the location before police arrived.

Police describe the suspect vehicle as a blue or dark blue Lexus SUV with severe front end damage.  Anyone who may see a vehicle matching this description is encouraged to call 911 or contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
