[ARCHIVED] Homicide investigation underway after man found dead in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (NPD) - Detectives with the Norfolk Police Department continue to canvass the scene following a man's death early Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 12:00 a.m., Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to a medical call for service and located a man lying outside in the 3100 block of Kitchener Avenue.  The man was pronounced dead on scene and had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound. Norfolk police responded and have categorized this case as an active homicide investigation.

Once the scene is processed by forensics, the man's remains will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death.

The man's identity will be released publicly once his next of kin are properly notified.

Detectives have not released any suspect description, but encourage anyone with information about this active homicide to contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
