NORFOLK, Va. – A Norfolk elementary school was placed on a brief lockdown Friday morning after a man entered the school claiming to be an undercover police officer.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. at Mary Calcott Elementary, located at 137 E. Westmont Avenue.
Detectives say the man entered the school and told staff that he was an undercover officer and needed to conduct a security check. Staff members questioned him, and he ran from the school.
The police impersonator is described as a black man, about 6’ tall, in his 40s wearing a blue plaid shirt and khaki pants.

Norfolk police officers were detailed to school during student drop off time, to ensure the man did not return.
There were no injuries reported, and no other information is available for release at this time.
