Adopt-a-Spot FAQs
- What are the Adopt-a-Spot program requirements?
- To remain an Adopt-a-Spot group in good standing, you should clean your assigned area whenever you see it is in need of attention. You must clean at least once a quarter (every three months, for a total of four times a year) and submit your cleanup report form after each cleanup.
- When will my group get our sign?
- To recognize your group’s dedication to maintaining your assigned location, your group should receive an Adopt-a-Spot sign with your group name after one year of consistently cleaning and submitting cleanup report forms at least once a quarter (every three months). We are currently experiencing a City-wide delay in signage placements. Thank you for your patience.
- There are other Adopt-a-Spot groups assigned to my location. Is this normal?
- Yes! We frequently assign multiple groups to heavily littered locations to ensure the area is getting the attention it needs. If you are consistently finding that there is not enough litter to justify organizing a cleanup, please email KNB@norfolk.gov to discuss receiving a new location assignment.
- I am a new leader for an existing Adopt-a-Spot group/I need to transfer group leadership. What do I do?
- To ensure a smooth transition, please email KNB@norfolk.gov to inform us of any group leader changes. New leaders for existing groups must go through our Adopt-a-Spot training and all contact information must be updated.
- My group is no longer able to fulfill our Adopt-a-Spot requirements. What should I do?
- Please email KNB@norfolk.gov to let us know that your group no longer wishes to be a part of our Adopt-a-Spot program. Please note that you can reactivate your group at any time.
- How do I dispose of trash collected during my cleanup event?
- If you have less than three full bags of trash, we ask that you attempt to dispose of them yourself (take them to your personal residential trash bin or ask businesses near your location if you can dispose of the trash in their dumpster).
- If you are unable to dispose of the trash collected during your cleanup, please
- place your trash at a street intersection
- call 757-441-1347 or email KNB@norfolk.gov and share:
- the street intersection where your bags are located
- the number of bags
- the type of bags (white or black)
- any bulky, unbagged items
- How can I get volunteer service letters for my group?
- Please email KNB@norfolk.gov the name of your group, the name of any individuals who would like their own letter, the number of hours each individual has given, and the dates they volunteered. All individuals will need to have signed in on the volunteer sign in sheet uploaded with the cleanup report for Keep Norfolk Beautiful to verify their hours and provide a volunteer letter.
