Pop-Up Community Cleanup

What is a Pop-Up Community Cleanup?
Pop-Up Community Cleanups enable you to make a difference where you see a need in our community. You pick the date, time, and location for your Pop-Up Community Cleanup, and Keep Norfolk Beautiful will provide you with all of the supplies you need to lead a litter cleanup by yourself, with your coworkers, family, friends, neighbors, civic league members, etc.
All cleanups require at least one Group Leader. Group leaders must go through the three steps below before leading a cleanup and must complete our Pop-Up Community Cleanup Report Form following the cleanup.
We recommend your cleanup last around 1 hour to 1 and a 1/2 hours to maximize your impact, but even 10 minutes of cleaning leads to a cleaner, greener Norfolk!
How do I organize a Pop-Up Community Cleanup?
- Register your Pop-Up Community Cleanup, once you have registered we will provide steps 2 and 3.
- Complete our Group Leader Training for Pop-Up Community Cleanups
- Schedule a supply pickup (all supply pickups must be in at least 48 hours in advance).
What else should I know about leading a Pop-Up Community Cleanup?
What should I do after completing the 3 steps above?
- Visit your cleanup location prior to your cleanup date.
- Estimate the number of volunteers needed and how many you can safely manage.
- Determine cleanup boundaries, meeting time, parking and registration place. Prepare a map of the site if this helps you and your group.
- Recruit volunteers, give them the location, where to park and expected start and end time. Choose a phone number and/or e-mail address for volunteers to RSVP and/or contact you with questions. Share this contact so others can help recruit.
- Report your cleanup after the event!
